BIOLOGICAL COMBINED SYSTEM (BIOCOS)
Hybrid Activated Sludge process which shares the features of both continuous flow and sequencing batch reactor systems. The benefit of cycles allows for more operational flexibility under varying loads and flow situations. BIOCOS is an Alternating Activated Sludge constant level Sequential Batch Reactor System without a Decanter.
Features
- A cyclic process operated at constant water levels
- A Hybrid technology combining the benefits of SBR and continuous flow system
- Features Alternating Sedimentation and Sludge Recycle
- High Solids Concentration in AIR – Reactor = High Biological process rates
- Relatively low solids concentration in ALT – Reactor = Improved Settling
- Principle Denitrification occurs in the AIR reactor during aeration breaks
- Substantial endogenous denitrification in the sludge blanket of the ALR – Reactor
ADVANTAGES
- Optimized biological phosphorous activity with densified biomass.
- Small footprint
- Denitrification Capability up to 50% of the nitrogen removal typically occurs in the sludge blanket of the ALT tanks. This denitrification approach is highly suited for low biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and total nitrogen (TN) ratios in the feed through endogenous decay.
- Low fine particles
- Simple O&M
- Less energy demand
